Cloud Penetration Testing for AWS, Azure & Google Cloud

Most cloud breaches start with a misconfiguration or an over-permissioned identity, not an exotic exploit. Our cloud penetration testing combines a configuration review of your AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud environment with hands-on testing of what an attacker could do with a leaked key, a compromised user or an exposed service. It is one part of our penetration testing services.

What we test

Identity & access management

Identity is the new perimeter in the cloud, so this is where we spend the most time.

  • Over-permissioned users, roles and service accounts
  • Privilege escalation paths through IAM policies and role assumption
  • Long-lived access keys and secrets in code, pipelines or storage
  • Multi-factor authentication and conditional access coverage
  • Publicly accessible S3 buckets, Azure Blob containers and Cloud Storage buckets
  • Snapshots, backups and databases exposed or shared too broadly
  • Encryption and key management configuration
  • Security groups, network security groups and firewall rules
  • Internet-exposed virtual machines, containers, Kubernetes and serverless functions
  • Metadata service abuse and lateral movement between workloads

For organizations on Microsoft 365, we review Entra ID roles, guest access, application consent, mail flow and sharing settings that commonly lead to account takeover and data leakage.

How Our Cloud Penetration Testing Works

Scoping & Rules of Engagement

We agree on the accounts, subscriptions or projects in scope, the access we will be given, and the cloud provider's testing rules, documented in a Statement of Work and authorization letter.

Penetration testing scoping and rules of engagement

Configuration Review

Using read-only access, we review identity, storage, network, logging and encryption settings against the CIS Benchmarks and your provider's security best practices.

Penetration testing reconnaissance phase

Attack Path Testing

We test what an attacker could do from realistic starting points, such as a leaked access key or a compromised developer account, and attempt to escalate privileges and reach sensitive data.

Reporting

You receive an executive summary and a technical report with each misconfiguration and attack path, its severity and the exact settings or policies to change.

Remediation Support & Retesting

We help your cloud team prioritize and apply fixes, then retest to confirm critical and high issues are closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need permission from AWS, Azure or Google to run a cloud penetration test?

Generally no. AWS, Microsoft and Google allow customers to test their own resources for most common services without prior approval, within each provider's published testing policy. We follow those rules and confirm scope with you in writing.

Usually a read-only account for the configuration review and, for attack path testing, a low-privileged identity that represents a realistic starting point. We never need your root or global administrator credentials.

No. A configuration review finds settings that are wrong. A penetration test proves what an attacker can do with them. Our cloud engagements include both, because a misconfiguration only matters if it can be reached and exploited.

Yes. Microsoft 365 and Entra ID are part of most organizations' cloud attack surface, and we can include them on their own or alongside AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.

Cloud testing is priced by the number of accounts, subscriptions and services in scope. Larger cloud environments fall in the $30,000 to $100,000+ range we quote for complex scopes, and smaller environments cost less. We provide a fixed quote after a free scoping call.
