Mobile App Penetration Testing for iOS & Android

Mobile apps put your code and your users’ data on devices you do not control. Our mobile app penetration testing examines iOS and Android apps and the APIs behind them, following the OWASP Mobile Application Security Verification Standard (MASVS) and Testing Guide (MASTG). It is one part of our penetration testing services.

What we test

Data storage and privacy
  • Sensitive data in local databases, files, logs, caches and backups
  • Use of the iOS Keychain and Android Keystore for secrets and tokens
  • Data leaking through screenshots, clipboards and third-party SDKs
  • Login, biometric unlock, session tokens and logout
  • Account takeover and authorization flaws between users
  • Deep links and app links that skip authentication

We intercept and analyze traffic between the app and your servers, test TLS and certificate pinning, and test the backend APIs directly against the OWASP API Security Top 10, where most serious mobile findings are found.

  • Reverse engineering and hardcoded keys, endpoints or credentials
  • Root and jailbreak detection, tamper resistance and obfuscation where required
  • Platform interaction: permissions, exported components, intents and URL schemes

How Our Mobile App Penetration Testing Works

Scoping & Rules of Engagement

We agree on app versions, platforms, user roles, test accounts and backend environments in scope, documented in a Statement of Work and authorization letter.

Penetration testing scoping and rules of engagement

Static Analysis

We decompile and review the app package for insecure code patterns, hardcoded secrets, weak cryptography and risky configuration.

Penetration testing reconnaissance phase

Dynamic Testing

We run the app on test devices, intercept its traffic, manipulate requests and test the backend APIs to prove what an attacker could actually do.

Penetration testing exploitation phase

Reporting

You receive an executive summary and a technical report with each finding, its MASVS category and severity, evidence and specific fixes for iOS, Android and the API.

Remediation Support & Retesting

We help your developers fix the findings and retest new builds, giving you a retest letter for app store reviews, customers and auditors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you test both iOS and Android?

Yes. We can test one or both platforms. Because the two versions of an app often share a backend, testing both together is usually more efficient.

Yes. Most serious mobile findings are in the backend API, so API testing is part of every mobile engagement unless you ask us to leave it out.

Test builds or store access for each platform, test accounts for each user role, and API documentation if you have it. Source code access is optional but makes testing more thorough.

The OWASP Mobile Application Security Verification Standard (MASVS) and Mobile Application Security Testing Guide (MASTG), plus the OWASP API Security Top 10 for the backend.

Pricing depends on the number of platforms, app complexity and API scope. We provide a fixed quote after a free scoping call.
